So in the beginning, God created.
He just said, "Let there be" and it just was. He brought chaos into order and set the worlds in place - things that have taken scientists thousands of years to discover, map and understand - and yet they came into being simply by the spoken word of God. And best of all, He was satisfied and happy with His handiwork - He saw that everything was good!
He created every living creature of out nothing, except the perfectly thought out plans from His mind. He paid careful attention to detail, even noticing that Adam ( even though he was surrounded by splendid beauty and perfection in the garden) still needed a companion - and so God created Eve for him.
It struck me today how the snake came to Eve and simply made her question God's goodness. Our enemy hasn't given up on that tactic and I think it seems even more plausible when life is hard and God seems very far away. But Adam & Eve had the best life anyone could dream of and they still believed that God didn't have their best interests at heart.
I can only imagine how it must've broken God's heart to curse His precious creation and to then drive Adam & Eve out of Eden. I've always been incredulous that Adam & Eve could've been so stupid and surely if it had been me in the garden, I would've reacted very differently to the snake?
What I still battle to understand is why God still chose to create everything and put so much effort and thought into His handiwork, knowing all the time that mankind would throw it all away and believe a renegade angel instead. What heartache to know that His only Son would be the only redemption for the world, and that not everyone would believe?
More than anything I desire that this Bible walk will open my eyes and my heart to things that my ears have heard of, but I have taken for granted or even chosen not to believe. I want to know more of who God is and know His heart more deeply. If I am created in His likeness, then surely He is not a distant, peculiar deity who desires to keep me at arm's length, floundering in my own theories or bound by impossible laws, obligations and duties in order to make Him love me more?
Surely I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Of this I am sure and I wait with an open heart and eyes wide open.
